X-ray Simulation at Keiser University’s Sarasota Campus

The Radiography Program at Keiser University’s Sarasota Campus transformed an unused classroom into a modern X-ray Simulation Lab to accommodate its growing student population.

Hear It From Keiser University

In the below video, Program Director Kathleen M. Drotar and Clinical Coordinator Teresa Strunk share how introducing VitaSim’s X-ray Simulator at Keiser University’s Sarasota Campus has doubled simulation capacity, providing a safer and more flexible way to train radiography students.

Student Nick Butler joins them to reflect on his experience learning with VR – gaining confidence in patient positioning and image evaluation before ever stepping into a real X-ray room in the clinic.

Our students are more responsive to seeing things visually, and they all prefer hands-on learning - this system gives them the opportunity to really see what they are doing.

Equipment and Setup

The program invested in two wall-mounted VR training stations equipped with a TV, allowing students to train in groups and support each other through peer learning.

Each station runs the VitaSim X-ray Simulator software, enabling more than 20 students to practice daily. The simulators allow students to develop skills in patient positioning and image evaluation in a safe, radiation-free environment.

Onboarding and Implementation

At Keiser University’s Sarasota Campus, the VitaSim team provided in-person onboarding, installing two VR stations and training faculty, IT staff, and two senior students on how to use the equipment.

The lab is now being used to train approximately 24 first-year students in radiographic positioning and image evaluation.
